Radical Collaboration and Reimagining Creative Education
Hey Creative Bestie!
The creative landscape is shifting beneath our feet. As we navigate these uncertain times, it's becoming increasingly clear that radical collaboration will be our greatest asset in the years ahead. We'll need to forge partnerships with people and organizations that may be entirely new to us, crossing industry lines, breaking down silos, and finding common ground with unlikely allies. The most resilient creative communities won't be those who hold tightly to traditional models, but those willing to experiment, adapt, and collaborate across boundaries that once seemed impenetrable. This might mean partnering with tech innovators who challenge our creative processes, or finding ways to work with policy makers to ensure creative voices are heard in economic planning. Whatever form it takes, radical collaboration will be essential as we collectively reimagine what sustainable creative ecosystems can look like.
NEW EPISODE: "How Can We Reimagine Creative Education?"
Our latest episode of Could Be Pretty Cool News features Derek (AKA Prez )Jackson, Founder and Executive Director of the National Collegiate Entertainers Group (NCEG), and Montgomery Davis, a fight and intimacy choreographer based in the Southeast.
Some key highlights from our conversations:
Derek's vision for establishing "music as a team sport" through NSEC, creating essentially the NCAA of the music industry
How NSEC's chapter program connects student organizations across college campuses, teaching entrepreneurial skills that are often overlooked in traditional music education
Montgomery's journey from acting to fight choreography, and how they're working to create more inclusive, accessible spaces in theatrical combat
The importance of bringing autonomy back to artists in intimate or physical scenes, ensuring performers have agency in how stories are told
Building educational frameworks that support creative entrepreneurs from all backgrounds, especially those traditionally underrepresented in creative industries
Both guests emphasize that reimagining creative education means not just teaching technical skills, but fostering entrepreneurship, community building, and creating more equitable pathways into creative careers.
